Week thirteen
The game: Patriots at Bills
The beer: Spencer Winter Warmer Amber Lager
The result: Win, 14–10
The method: NFL Game Pass
Week fourteen (bye)
The beer: Northwoods Coffee Porter
The headline: “Like a leaf clings to a tree, oh, my darling, cling to me, for we’re creatures of the wind.” – Nina Simone, “Wild Is the Wind”
The commentary: Goddamn, that Northwoods porter was fiiine company during American hero Tom Brady’s dominance/disappearance/dominance pattern. “Should the Bills lose their home game, though, they can go hang out with the Falcons in the land of brokenness for the next decade.” This prophecy would have held if Brady kept his foot on the gas toward Blowout City but, with Josh Allen putting the whole fucking team on his back and willing overtime, I’d feel alright if I were a Bills fan right now. Just not as good as a Pats fan… even one who had to wait for Tuesday Morning Football.
Also not so good with Sean McDermott in the way. For crying out loud, Bobby Heenan would be better equipped to check his emotions when things—one-dimensional opposing offenses, laughable time mismanagement, lopsided officiating—didn’t go his red-assed way. Plus attempting a field goal on that end of the field? Come on. All of us, Sean, from the tallest to the shortest, We’re Creatures of the Wind.
1. John Coltrane – My Favorite Things (live)
Recorded circa 1961 and taken from the barely legitimate My Favorite Favourite Things compilation. With a U! Those Rodgers & Hammerstein lawyers earned no “Master’s of Jazz.”
2. John Tams – Bitter Withy
“At the 2006 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Tams won Best Album for The Reckoning, Best Traditional Track (for ‘Bitter Withy’) and Folk Singer of the Year.” Fuck yeah, John!
3. Unwound – December
Teased four years ago, realized today and lighting a single cigarette in Cambridge for eternity.
4. Tomorrow’s World – The Winter Is Cold
Is this a Make-Up side project minus all Make-Up band members? Take me to the bridge!
5. Watersons – Christmas Is Now Drawing Near at Hand
Always leave listeners bathed in the warm glow of hope.
Up next: An odd entrances. Cheers!
